Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo #2 graphite pencil drawing and giclee print by Mike Sibley

"Cockatoo #2"

This is the second Sulphur Crested Cockatoo that I drew in 1989. I suffer from Cluster Migraine - one attack a day for about five weeks then nothing for 12 to 18 months - and during one of these periods I was clear of migraine for about one day in three and chose to draw this Sulphur-crested Cockatoo from a batch of photos I'd taken at a Bird Garden.

I decided not to print because I was certain offset-litho printing couldn't capture both the very fine detail and the dark tones. Then Giclée printing became available and solved the problem.

The original drawing took about 36 hours to complete and hangs on the wall of my studio.
