FOUNTAINS ABBEY and STUDLEY ROYAL WATER GARDEN
The 800-year old Cistercian Fountains Abbey is Britain's largest ruin and one of Yorkshire's most visited attractions. It includes the grand Elizabethan mansion, Fountains Hall, and the 18th-century Studley Royal Water Garden, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

RIEVAULX ABBEY
The impressive ruins at Rievaulx include extensive remains of the church, which was one of the finest in the North, and claustral buildings; five arches from the original cloister survive.

BYLAND ABBEY
Byland was one of the great Yorkshire Cistercian abbeys, housing at its zenith well over 200 monks and lay brothers. Much of its huge cathedral-sized church survives, including the whole north side and the greater part of the 13th-century west front.

THE NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS RAILWAY
Take the opportunity of a day trip with a difference and the chance to visit Pickering, Goathland village (perhaps better known as Aidensfield in YTV’s Heartbeat), and Levisham with its beautiful forest drive and walks. Stop at Grosmont's genuine 1950s railway junction, where you can take a break in the station café, visit the engine sheds and view the locomotives under restoration and on many days throughout the year, journey onwards to the historic port of Whitby.
