Remarques
Remarques (also known as Remarks) are original drawings applied to one or more margins of a print, usually a limited edition.
In common practice, most Painters' remarques consist of relatively quick pencil sketches. However Mike draws and remarques in pencil so it seems entirely appropriate that Mike's remarques are of a similar quality to the main body of the work. (see right and remarque detail below)
There are two versions of Mike Sibley remarques; the regular (shown here) and the full-width panoramic - Mike's own invention.
These superior remarques take time to produce (over six hours for a single remarque and eleven or more for a panorama), which is partially reflected in the price - but where else could a small original work of art be purchased for a similar sum?
Many of the remarques are ordered by Mike's Dealers for resale, others are commissioned by customers directly from Mike, so prices vary. As a guide, expect a Regular remarque to add about £100 to the cost of your print and £180 for a panoramic remarque.
Although we make no claims that the value of your print will increase in time, it is our experience that a print from a sold-out edition can command a price ten times that of the original purchase price. A print bearing a Mike Sibley unique remarque could command rather more.
