Overview
WEEKEND WORKSHOPS: Graphite Pencil Drawing Techniques

Duration : 2 days, 10 am to 5 pm

Location : North Yorkshire - Sawley Village Hall, near Ripon

Dates :
July 5-6 - places still available
September 20-21 - places still available
These two-day informal workshops will suit artists of all abilities, from novice to advanced, and who have a desire to learn new techniques and to polish known ones.
Each workshop is loosely structured to fit around the current knowledge, experience and abilities of those attending. You will leave with a greater ability to render contrasts and textures (the graphite pencil 'colours'), and an enhanced understanding of which techniques to best use in a given situation.
Paper, pencils and all other necessary supplies are included. However, if you prefer to use your own favourite pencils and tools, please bring them with you.
A number of Mike's original drawings will be made available so you can study them in close detail. Mike will be happy answer all queries and demonstrate specific techniques used. Please feel free to bring examples of your own work along.

Typical Itinerary
DAY 1: In the morning Mike will offer instruction and assistance on drawing techniques that apply to the rendering textures, such as Negative Drawing, the application of tone, and other techniques for applying graphite.
In the afternoon, you will begin a series of exercises involving small, manageable drawings. Later you, and your fellow students, will begin working on identical drawings (photos and guideline drawing provided) that feature many of the techniques explored during the day. Advice and assistance with drawing all elements will be available at all times.
DAY 2: Drawing will recommence, interspersed with question and answer sessions (coffee breaks!). This day is more loosely structured and Mike will be pleased to demonstrate any techniques that you request, or answer any art related questions. Mike will also offer personal tuition throughout the day as required. If you are unsure of anything please let Mike know so he can assist - it's no good telling him on the way out! There is no pressure to complete any drawing during the two days, so take them home and complete them at leisure.
WORKSHOP PLUS: Your workshop does not end when you leave the venue. Continue to work on your workshop drawings at home and post them to
Workshop Plus for continuing assistance and critiques.
